Habitats along the Trail
1. As the trail begins near the ball field at Prescott Park, you enter a previously farmed, young forest of white pine and
hemlock.
2. It follows the edge of a sandy bank along a former glacial outwash levee into a deep organic soil, forested swamp. The
swamp is primarily a Seasonally Flooded Red Maple Swamp with some basin characteristics.
3. The upland Island, where the classroom area exists, is composed of a relatively mature Hemlock, Beech, Oak, Pine Forest
on a mound of sandy soil.
4. The scrub-shrub swamp has characteristics of a Cinnamon Fern -Winterberry Holly Wooded Fen but soon grades into an
Alder, Dogwood, Arrowwood Alluvial Thicket before breaking out into a Cattail Marsh.
5. The final length of the boardwalk traverses an open water aquatic bed that has been impounded in part by the parking
lots and thoroughfare of NH Route 25.
